Leopold takes cover and starts yelling that the research in the facility is sanctioned by the Inquisition and Ms Ruby. Guards start attacking Zur and Neron Perez makes a break for the exit. Lucilla disarms Zur as Jericus intervenes to protect Zur from guards. Leopold agrees that we should kill the escaped experiment and we will go back to Scintilla and Ms Ruby can explain everything. Neron doesn’t get far.

Jura finds a trail leading from the compound towards a forest area near the village. We track it into the woods but lose the trail. While being distracted, the monster ambushes the team who attack with impunity. After killing the creature, the team takes a trophy to the village to show they have succeeded and Zur gives a speech to rally the villagers. The villagers generally prefer the less crazy brother but fear their leader.

We check in with Reinhold Quintus on the way out – he doesn’t think there’s actually a monster and is surprised that we found and killed something but he’s happy we succeeded in our mission. We depart for the Oroborous and are joined by Leopold in a few days.

Travel: Everyone heals, Lucilla learns ship security procedures, Leopold secludes himself. It seems Leopold has a permanent storage on the ship. Jericus installs a powerful backdoor (rolled v. well) in the ship’s computer. He shares that information with Thrace only.

Arrive at Scintilla. Meet with Ms. Ruby – Dinner in 3 hrs. Ms Ruby requests a physical exam for Zur and Jericus goes along as an observer. The exam seems routine and looking for regular medical maladies. We do some research in the town and don’t really learn much. No top secret bases or information on the Swift Victory. We show up for dinner but Leopold doesn’t join us. Ms Ruby seems ‘down’ at dinner. She indicates that a bounty hunter on Leopold’s team brought the lacrimole back against her wishes. We were on a clean-up mission to tie up that loose end. We press Ruby on information about Leopold’s work and for more information about what’s going on.

Ms Ruby: “What do you know about psychers?” Psychers get their power from the warp but we allow some to live because we need their powers to survive. The inquisition is there to exploit dark secrets for the betterment of humanity. Inquisitors are given special training to determine what is and isn’t acceptable. Vonk was the ‘wrong hands’. The mandate for the Inquisition comes from Holy Terra.

She wants to give us gifts but they are not the tools of the righteous; they are given to those who are willing to sacrifice of themselves to defend humanity.

Thrace: body implant taken from an xeno but may be grafted onto a tech priest. It assists in defense against energy weapons. It +4 toughness vs energy damage in the body. Doesn’t count as armor because it’s an implant. If it successfully soaks 4pts of damage, it will heal a point of fatigue. But there’s corruption to have it implanted.

What can she tell us about the Black Rose? She has suspicion regarding who the Black Rose is; looks suspiciously at Jura when saying this. She keeps Zur after dinner alone without the team. We are directed to take whatever time we need and reconvene in a few weeks. When we return she has a ’very important task".

Zur is threatened – the blood they took at the medical exam was used to bless a bullet that allows Ruby to kill Zur anywhere/time.

We could research what xenos were on the prison planet. – Ms Ruby – They are the necrons a race believed to be long dormant. Techpriests have long wanted to learn their ways and adapt their technology. They are supposed to be v. difficult to kill. At one point they waged war against another more powerful race – the star gods. Necrons were able to trap and utilize star gods’ power as a weapon or power source. There are some of these star gods what have been let loose in the Calixa sector. Star Gods when contained look like a crystal struture. When not contained, they can manifest in many ways. Unknown if we killed or released one of these beings.

We dock on the Oroborous and are greeted with a summons to meet with the Captain. There are four Arbitrators in the Captain’s office. We invoke a rarely used loophole and request a third party witness to our debrief and pick someone from the church to be our witness (subtext: she’s powerful and if she kills us someone else will know).

We land on Tranch at the appointed time. We leave our guard witness in the brig for his own protection on the Oroborous. We meet our priest friend [Vincinius Hausier] and head to Ms. Abide’s office. Keith bluffs us through talking to Abide: there is mutual agreement that we will not cross paths with each other again. We agree for Vincinius to meet our guard stowaway on the Orobourous. Vincinius takes the guard with him. The Oroborous departs with us on board.

We will keep our eyes open for info about the Red Eye and ship [Swift Victory] and super weapon. Officially we are investigating Black Rose. We head back to Settlement 228 to eventually pick up Leopold.

News; Propaganda from Reinhold Quintus – v. government centric news ala totalitarian regime. Broadcast from Olman Quintus is dry and factual but not so government white washed and more neutral. Seems like more of a cold war; not a lot of actual combat. Might be that both sides aren’t armed for actual combat. Reinhold seems to hold the majority of the planet, but Olman’s half seem to be maybe better taken care of. Leopold asks us to do another job for Reinhold saying that he’s crazy but at least he’s on our side. Meet Reinhold: Border towns are waning in loyalty and he wants us to go help a village (Ursus) and claiming a monster is harassing them.

We fly to the village and see multiple large windowless and heavily guarded compounds along the way. There is one .5 mi from the village and we go there to investigate. Guards say this is a research facility. after bluffing through the radio and the guards, we are escorted into an elevator lobby. The elevator lobby opens and Leopold walks out. There are “things here that he doesn’t know about and shouldn’t know about”. Leopold offers to take us on a tour. Reinhold allows us to keep facilities here we couldn’t keep on Scintilla. We are led to meet Nadia DeKoenig (the other xeno researcher). Along the hallway are windows into laboratories – we see Neron Perez being forced into working. Tyranids – insect like alien race that we kill whenever we encounter them. We go further into the basement and into a room where there is something against the ceiling. We are all sprayed with Tyranid phermones and then she opens a door that opens into a Tyranid hive. Nadia starts to lead us down a tunnel to show us a vaguely human/tyranid half breed. Create human that excretes tyranid pheremones and can walk into a hive and kill them all. Villagers tried to break into the facility and while the villagers all died, something (a hybrid) escaped.

Gain a point of corruption if you went in the hive.

We all go back to another laboratory. Leopold completely admits that this is heresy with an argument for ‘the ends justify the means’. He says that we should learn more about the inquisition and he is not the right teacher to share that information. Keith pulls his flamer and tries to shoot Leopold who dodges causing Keith to kill Nadia instead.

Once more into the breach...

Start the session in the breached opening of an alien space ship. Things inside are advanced xeno technology; but well preserved. Enter through a lit up blinky technology looking space. We can go left or right… Right. … There is a closed sliding door. backtrack and look at left hand hallway. Hallway opens into a room; On the far side of the room there is a pile of approx 12 bodies. Enter room; there are stasis pods with cybernetic things in them. ~9ft tall, mechanized beings; seem well armored and very little biologic component to them. The ship is far from the spire; so if they’re using the ship to power things they would have to run a major conduit. Bodies are methodically stacked prisoners from the prison and are not servitors. They were shot. (we discover later that gun servitors probably stacked them.)

Go back to the door. Thrace and Zur search the door and finds no traps, but Luce finds human boot prints going back and forth through this door. There is an empty hallway with more doors. There are recent tracks down the hall and through an open doorway. We look into the room where the footprints lead and find gun servitors and more of the mechanical aliens. We take out one of the gun servitors; they didn’t seem to send out a message alerting of our presence. Jericus takes control of the other servitor. We examine the computers and pods; they are powered by ship; no clear buttons to control the pods so they are controlled by computers or ship. Maybe if we can power the ship down…

Go further down the hall, through another door and find 3 more servitors. We take out two of them and take over the third one. The broken one carries Jura’s broken body. The other has a working gun. Out the back of the room there’s a railing showing engine parts; there are two reactors and an empty space for a third with human tools lying around. The remaining power sources seem to be working correctly. Jericus uses some heretical xeno medical supplies to try and heal Jura – the impossible happens. We set explosives to make the engine go critical in 24 hours. Jericus fixes the second servitor and programs them both to defend our hidden bomb.

We head back to the spire; the way we came is blocked by a makeshift wall built by prisoners. There’s a gang there. ~12 crudely equipped Zur intimidates them with his holy flamethrower and Jericus grenades their wall. We continue on and return safely to the spire. “The warden wants to see you…” We check in with the warden who is just upset that we went out without his permission.

We return to the ship and depart. We have a stowaway guard who wants out. We are not going to talk to Ms. Abide. We plan to go back to Tranch and meet up with Leopold.

Our story: that we went to the planet, Barros was switched so we went into the compound and found xeno shit and blew the place up. We did not talk to Barros. We have guard as a witness of Abide’s heretical prison colony. We are going to wait and see what happens with our knowledge of Leopold and see if Ms. Ruby knows what he’s been up to.

Head Priest Sanguinius dodged question and used some form of mind control to stop us asking questions. Zar was not fooled

Pausing on Settlement 228 with Leopold and Reinhold Quintus on the way to Tranch.

Olman and Reinhold’s father was governor of the planet. Younger brother (Olman) thinks he has claim on the governor and the younger brother wants to send us with a package to the brother. The package is a head from a spy. He thinks that the brother is less likely to kill inquisition. Olman has taken over part of the planet and set up his own faction.

Both sides look like they’re pretty miserable and poor. Both sides aren’t particularly well armed or equipped.

Land on Olman’s lawn. Announce we are inquisition. Olman comes out to collect package. He opens the box and doesn’t look surprised. Send message to Reinhold that package was delivered. “Your lady is welcome to visit any time.”

Leopold is going to stay on Settlement 228 to “do some work”. We go on to Tranch in pursuit of Baros for selling lacrimole DNA. Redacted information is signed Noella Abide. Also questions about how she’s funding her operation. Ask around about Noella. Techpriests find out that She rounded up tech priests and took them off world and never heard from again. Theory: she was building something and killed them at the end to keep her secrets. Talk to shop keeper: things are running well, smoothly and everything is wonderful. Shopkeeper lived on Hesh (lathes) and this is much better. He seems genuinely happy. Shopkeeper says good things about Noella.

We go to see Noella. The arbites are well equipped and plentiful. Crime is low. Meet Noella and ask about the Xeno dealer. She will give us info to get to the dealer in exchange for a favor. She wants to give people the opportunity to make amends with the emperor by working instead of being instantly being put to death. [THIS IS HERETICAL]. We can interrogate this person who is at a work farm. The work facility needs fuel for their reactors and then stopped requesting any supplies including fuel. She is worried that they are becoming independent of her. The facility is off-world. She thinks there’s a mole in her organization and we’re supposed to find out where they are getting fuel from. Noella will assign us to a larger cargo ship for travel to the penal colony.

Arrive at penal colony, and see a dome shaped ‘city’ on the planet which resembles Venus. Dome opens and we enter the colony.

See wiki for emails from Vonk Enterprises. Message saying 4th lacrimole sent to gun metal (Cintilla) city and price for the mission it is 100,000 thrones. Cintilla is the capital of the sector where Miss Ruby is. Launch codes for for missiles.

We have Vonk tell his soldiers to stand down and call the government to tell them that we have captured Vonk. Governor does not have information on bounty hunter.

Ask Tech priests about the bounty hunter – last they heard from him was he was headed to Tranch several years ago.

Go interrogate Marcellus – find him through Marshall Dolan. Marshall is going to look up if there are any arbites records on the bounty hunter. We go talk to Marcellus. Jura is grumpy with him. Hasn’t spoken to Zamelda since the school closed. Miss Zamelda gave a positive recommendation for Marcellus to Black Rose and helped him get the job with Vonk. Marcellus can’t tell us about Jura’s programming due to his own programming. “There were scientists at the school.” Marcellus then passes out. When he awakes: he thinks miss Zamelda is back on their home world, but might be able to be drawn out with Jura’s body. Did know that it was lacrimoles he was training and believed in the cause for “the perfect assassins”. They weren’t all perfect assassins, and some of them didn’t come out right – the last one is the one that was on top of its game. Kill Marcellus.

Marshall Dolvan found a record on Barros (the bounty hunter) from a few years ago – was arrested on Tranch for selling illegal weapons, but the execution date is blank, and there’s a bunch redacted and signed “Noella Abide, Inquisitor”

Hang out a few days drinking tiki drinks and Jericus gets his mechadendrite. Leopold says to make an example of Vonk. We execute him on TV.

Go back to Auroborus – talk to Leopold.about Noella Abide – well respected on trench and she cleaned up the crime on the planet. There are rumors spreading about her having some kind of corruption since her officers are the best armed in the sector and there’s no money trail to explain it.

We go to gun metal city to attack the lacrimole. We know an address where there was supposed to be a meeting. We know the name of the handler (Larkin) We find a hotel reservation for Larkin several weeks ago and check out the hotel room. We find lacrimole armor and some weapons. There’s a fine layer of dust on everything. We go to the bar where they were supposed to meet and Jura looks for a shady person. Jericus finds ship records for the arrival of Larkin and Garth. Research mysterious deaths and find an exsanguinated body being stored at the morgue. We go to the morgue. Person tried to break in and steal the body and they were caught and given to the authorities. Body is Miss Ruby’s body guard, Argus. Go to arbiters to see who broke it – it’s Larkin. We start interrogating Larkin – target was an inquisitor, killed someone to get close to the inquisitor. After the kill – give code word to bartender and then get payout. Larkin gives us the codeword and the bar. We sentence him to death

Go to Miss Ruby’s. Radio to Leopold on Auroborus. We take our ship to Miss Ruby’s compound. Leopold will radio ahead so her other guards know to expect us. We land and “Argus” is in Miss Ruby’s office with her and a diplomat. Diplomat is Reinhold Quintus from Settlement 228. We break into Miss Ruby’s office, Jura interposes herself between Miss Ruby and “Argus” who opens fire. Luce one hit’s the lacrimole. Miss Ruby, “well that was unexpected.” We are escorted out and asked to return in the evening.

At dinner, we are offered our choice of beverage again, at dinner with Miss Ruby. Ask Miss Ruby about things she doesn’t know (miss zamelda, black rose, bounty hunter), Noella Abide is specialized in insurgency. After Dinner they bring us boxes. PREZZIES! Jura gets a stealthy armor (+20 to shadowing, 4 armor, +20 to dodge when you activate and lasts 2D10 rounds). Zar is given a flame thrower with the head of an eagle that makes a squealing sound that causes fear 1 in our enemies. Luce is given a helmet with 4 armor points with mirror shades that allow +10 to scrutiny, interrogation, search, tracking. Jericus is given a vehicle control implant successful tech use gives piloting control of vehicle can get blunt control of vehicles for 1 fatigue but can control will bonus worth of vehicles for 1km range. Thrace is given a long laze with red dot sight that connects to her implants and allows for free aim on a maintained target with line of sight.

Start up day before attack should begin. Update from brothers in Nimbusplex: civil defense force may have a narrow advantage because several high level executives have “gone missing”.

Analyse Vonk HQ map – all executives have a back hallway to a safe room. Kira and Vera show up and say they’re going to work on taking out the remaining executives and recruit Jura to join them.

Plan: Visit Thalia and when the attack starts fight our way to the safe room. Bring 2 tech priests as “technical advisors” after last sandbox encounter.

We gain access to the building by talking to Thalia. She bring us in to a sandbox room. We’ve also asked for access to executive offices and by the time we’re looking to stop killing time in the computer room, they’re ready for us in the offices. We go in, kill some time and also look for the secret passage. We eventually find the hidden door and make our way to Vonk’s lair.

The blast doors are closed and there are two guards. We successfully intimidate one and the other hits the alarm. Jericus hits them with a grenade and takes out the paniced guard. The other one takes damage but is still up. Combat starts and we take him out in a few rounds. Meanwhile, Thrace and the techpriest minions start jacking in and trying to open the blast doors via computer. After a few rounds, a scuffle starts down one hallway, and two guards appear. The party successfully takes them out as Thalia appears followed promptly by a red laser sight and a bullet. From the fog appears Jura, Vera and Kira.

Vonk comes on the computer display saying we have 12 minutes until he levels Terminus. Thrace successfully hacks the door open and we are now faced with fighting Vonk himself and 4 guards. There are two terminals – one for the missile system and another which presumably has the top secret files we’ve been wanting. The team starts systematically taking out the guards, and as the guards fall, Jericus goes for the weapons computer and Luce starts going after Vonk eventually subduing him.

The techpriests keep fighting the AI in the computer while Luce starts interrogating Vonk. Jericus eventually gets control of the targeting system and re-targets Vonk HQ. Thrace downloads the entire dirty secrets hard drive. The retargeting, Vonk breaks and says he will use his handprint to finish disabling the missiles.

We have time to clean up – stealing and erasing hard drives and delete the AI.

Urgent communication from Nimbusplex: Heavy casualties on both sides and evenly matched. Vonk might have ICBMs capable of destroying Terminus and may use them if he feels cornered.

Interrogate Kira: Luce doesn’t succeed at interrogating her. Jura goes in: Vera and I have been looking all over for you. Jura: price on my head? Kira: due to walking away form marriage. Miss Zamelda also put a price on my head. School was shut down and put prices on everyone’s heads. I was trying to find out why they closed the school so I went to infiltrate Vonk. Vera was probably the one trying to protect you, she’s on this planet. Rest of our team is dead. Leta disappeared (she failed a mission and Zamelda killed her), Anna (failed a mission and wasn’t right. drugged and then killed? by Zamelda). We have blackout times and feel weird, think Zamelda did something to them and now it’s “coming undone”. Poss: brain implant, mental programming? Have info for trying to find Vera – pseudonyms and safehouses. Tell her we’re inquisition investigating heretical activities. After when being interrogated after raid by Arbitrator Dolvan – asking about “the black rose”.

Send message to Vera at hotel to meet at the employee bar from earlier. She’ll join us back at ship.

Ask researcher for names: who was your handler or project manager? The black rose. Original DNA came from freshly dead (murdered) lacrimole. Lacrimoles aren’t as dead as we thought – this one was bred. Vonk really wanted a breeding pair. Tell scientist that Vonk killed his daughter.

Research: note able to get info on exacutives at technoskill. Do get high level public facing officials at Vonk. One of them is the well dressed lady in the ornithopter at the jail – Thalia McHel – Vonk’s right hand for years. Have generic list of executives. Also found locations where Vonk dug out silos but they have. Look into who might be a lacrimole behind the sceens pulling Vonk’s strings.

Meet with Arbitrator Dolvan at “Cheers”. She was taken off the case after prisoner transfer went poorly. All Vonk staff is handling case. Black Rose: person is heading up technoskill operation but no futher info. Not an established criminal; technoskilll has been in business for 3 years. Thalia – Vonk’s most trusted staff, if Vonk is involved, she is too.

Thalia will meet with us in Terminus. Willing to cut her a deal if she tells us everything. THis is a problem that isn’t going to go away. set up a deal with her. She will meet us in a government room; she is extremely protective of Vonk. THis is all a misunderstanding, we want to put this behind us. Vonk will meet with us in Vonkus Majorus. Thalia – black rose contacted Vonk to pitch super assassins. Vonk did an initial investment and started technoskill labs. Genetically engineered shape shifting super soldiers. Thalia has not been able to find info about black rose. Scrutiny- she is full of shit but thinks she and Vonk are untouchable. Thalia will give us access to technoskill building and arrange a meeting with Vonk at Vonk HQ. She will send us correspondence with Black Rose. She will take us in ornithopter to Vonk HQ.

They are taking us the long way and showing us all the military capability. Land at Vonk HQ. Vonk gives us access to some files in a sanitized sandbox. Nimbusplex – computer and data company. Approach them looking for help hacking Vonk and pull out the inquisition card if necessary. Offer for we get heretical info and they can have anything else. Also trade on info that an attack on Vonk is coming. What we want: where the “artifact” came from, special trained assassin missions, location of scientists’s daughter.

Jura, Thrace, Jericus go to Nimbusplex to meet techpriests. They go into the front entrance and meet two techpriests on a throne. Governor Sanvik sent word ahead. Most protected data is isolated in Vonk HQ. Some informants in Vonk have returned “changed” implying that his computer systems have the ability to damage any hackers. Payment: get techpriests in and out safely. Nimbusplex will provide hackers to penetrate the systems during the military incursion. Take 2 days to train Thrace and Jericus on how to fight Vonk’s anti intrusion measures.

They will provide information on Marcellas Bernotus – home address near technoskill laboratories. Miss Zamelda – does not register. What is state of Vonk defenses? Send to Governor. Location of Serena Perez – does not register.

Luce and Zar stay in Vonkus Majorus trying to social engineer some disgruntled employees. Go to bar with guy who directs us to the bar. Bar is empty. All the employees were arrested. The bar’s been empty investigation at technoskill is ongoing. Gossip: supposedly when they were raiding they found prisoners – two younger ladies. Taken into custody. Who is in charge of investigation? Vonk security, but Arbitrator Marshall Dolvan is helping with the investigations.

Visit Arbitrator Dolvan – two prisoners – one is a prisoner asking for her father a scientist. Other is a spy who won’t talk. Looking for illegal lab records. Computers were destroyed. Dolvan gives us prisoner transfer papers for two prisoners to terminus. Jura joins Luce and Zar to do prisoner transfer. Go into Vonk security (jail) and escorted to warden’s office. Picture of the team pictured on the wall wanted for questioning by Vonk Corporate. Other person looks pretty beaten, dressed like a flower delivery person. DId not give a name.

Jura is in office – watches as black helicopter lands in front courtyard. well dressed woman in a suit 2 guards (think secret service) approached jail.

Warden leads the two prisoners and Luce and Zar to a sewer grate. Luce takes a swing as the warden leaves. The 4 some go into the sewers. find sewer grate and ladder escape. Jura joins team – Jura recognizes Kira who was part of Jura’s team under Miss Zamelda. Go back to bar to clean up. Kira gives name “Crystal” – just a delivery girl; she fails her deceive. Go back to Terminus and set them up in a hotel and do DNA tests on both of them. Kira DNA test comes back human. Serena comes back not human. Scientist confirms that his daughter should be human.

Thrace stays with Kira. Zar stakes out a sniper position on the neighboring roof. Jura watches the door, Luce takes in-the-room duty. Rocket fires from Zar’s hotel to ours. Zar hits and then so does the rocket. Not Serena goes all Lacrimole – combat starts. Not Serena gets killed by the team. Kira tries to get into combat but after getting ganged up on, surrenders. Jura parkours out the building to help rescue Zar who has been attacked in a different hotel, two blocks away. Luce binds Kira and starts hauling her towards the roof where our ship is supposed to pick us up. Jura makes it to the other hotel and Zar’s assailant. Jura goes full berserker and kills the attacker – she was a handler for the lacrimole. (Johnny let this slip)

Interrogate Kira then lay low for a week and do battle planning. The government raid on Vonk will be in a week.
